Beckton Hospital Opens New Ward for Female Mental Health

A hospital in London has opened a new ward to support women struggling with their mental health.

Cygnet Hospital Beckon, on Tunnan Leys, is run by leading health and social care organisation, Cygnet Health Care. On Tuesday 23 January it opened a new 12-bed ward, named Svanna, which will provide a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit for women.

The aim is to provide short, rapid interventions to help individuals to regain a sense of control and order in their lives, so they can move to a less restrictive care setting and, ultimately, return home.

With a focus on stabilisation, the Svanna Ward team will support women to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.

The official ribbon cutting performed by Peter Smith, Managing Director of Cygnet Health Care (South).

Awa Bah, Clinical Manager at Cygnet Hospital Beckton said: “We are very pleased to open this new PICU ward at Cygnet Hospital Beckton which will enable women to get the high quality support they need.

“We look forward to continuing to support even more women to progress along their recovery journey.”

The hospital offers three further wards to support women, including a personality disorder service and an acute service.

Cygnet set to open five new state-of-the art hospitals in 2024 and completely modernise existing facilities as part of an extensive expansion programme.
