Starting out her career as a healthcare assistant in 1978, Professor Rachel Munton later qualified as a nurse before climbing up the ladder to hold a variety of top posts both on and off the ward.

She has now been enlisted as the first independent chair of the mid Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Provider (ICP).
The group will bring together a variety of organisations involved in the planning and delivering of care services across Mansfield, Ashfield, Newark and Sherwood.
These include NHS trusts, general practices, clinical commissioning groups, local authorities and independent and charity providers.
Professor Munton said she was “delighted” to take on the job. “These are exciting times for all the organisations involved in transforming local services,” she said.
“I strongly believe that we have a real opportunity to make a difference through our collective endeavour,” said Professor Munton.
She has previously held director posts at the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network; the Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care for Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire; and the East Midlands Leadership Academy.
More recently, Professor Munton has been a lay member of the Mansfield and Ashfield, Newark and Sherwood Clinical Commissioning Group governing bodies.

The mid Nottinghamshire ICP is part of the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System – a spoke in a nationwide wheel of partnership groups working to pull together care services in a geographical area and redesign them in a way that best meets the needs of the local population.
Wendy Saviour, managing director of the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICS, welcomed Professor Munton’s appointment.
“Rachel is a highly respected nursing leader who has spent her professional life working for the benefit of patients and diverse communities,” she said.
“Her local knowledge and leadership skills from years of experience working across the East Midlands will be a strong asset to the partnership,” Ms Saviour said.
“The new ICP board, with Rachel as chair, will play a pivotal role in enabling local providers to forge closer links between community, mental health and social care services,” she added.
Richard Mitchell, chief executive of Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and executive lead for the mid Nottinghamshire ICP, said Professor Munton’s experience would be “extremely valuable” to the group.
