Staff from Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, (LPT) are joining business leaders and other professionals at the Leicester Employability Day taking place at the University of Leicester on Wednesday 29th May and aimed at young people aged from 10 to 19 and their parents.
The event will address the hurdles young people from African, Caribbean and dual heritage backgrounds can have finding jobs and showcase the employment opportunities available across the county with employers including LPT, who employs over 5,500 staff and provides high quality integrated mental health, learning disability and community health services.
The Employability Day is organised by the University of Leicester and the Foundation for Reach Society (FFRS) and supported by Loughborough and De Montfort universities. It’s the second year this day has been run after launching in Wolverhampton last year.
Daniel Norbury, Head of Employment Services at LPT said, “This is an exciting opportunity to discuss our jobs and opportunities with young people from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) backgrounds and how they could enjoy rewarding careers within our organisation. We have a team of BME staff from different areas of our organisation attending to talk about how their careers within the NHS have developed so far. Come and talk to them to find out how they got where they are today, and pick up one of our information packs. These contain information about the range of roles and jobs that you can consider as career options for a future within the NHS.”
Faisal Hussain is Non-Executive Director at LPT and sits on LPT’s BME Focus group. He said, “I am extremely pleased that we are able to work with Leicester University to provide young people from black Caribbean and dual heritage backgrounds with a chance to meet LPT staff who are from similar backgrounds to them.
“We all need positive role models and particularly young people from backgrounds who are under-represented in our workforce. Hopefully we will inspire these young people to choose a career within Leicestershire Partnership Trust, one of the biggest NHS Employers in the region.”
Registration for the event can be done through this link before 6 pm on Tuesday 28th May 2019. The event runs from 10.30am until 15.30pm on Wednesday 29th May 2019.
