London Start-Up revolutionising prescription treatment for patients

A London based start-up is revolutionising the way patients receive prescription treatment using an online platform that involves no face to face contact with a clinician.

Chemist Click is trying to make healthcare more accessible to people living increasingly busy lives. Patients choose the treatment they require, fill out an online questionnaire to assess their condition and the medication is prescribed and dispensed from their inhouse pharmacy ready for next day delivery.

They believe using questionnaires is a convenient and safe way to assess patients. Founder Abbas Kanani said:

“We feel this method not only makes getting an assessment easier, but it eliminates any problems of embarrassment and patients aren’t put on the spot.”

“Questions are like those asked by a GP or pharmacist, but not being put on the spot encourages patients to answer the questions honestly and openly. There are certain times where we would need to contact patients by telephone or via e-mail, but only to clarify medical related issues.”

Patients fill out questionnaires at their own leisure. They simply choose the condition they want treated and fill out the free online consultation. Conditions available on the site include erectile dysfunction, chlamydia, male pattern baldness and acne amongst many others.

If the prognosis is more complex, patients are recommended to seek a consultation with their GP.

Abbas, who qualified as a pharmacist in 2013, has worked meticulously to ensure that the website is secure and safe. Chemist Click use Secure Sockets Layer, which according to him “helps safeguard sensitive data and prevents potential hackers from reading and modifying information that is transferred between us and the user.

“We have invested heavily in ensuring that our systems are robust and have a dedicated IT team that looks after the security of our systems,” Abbas added.

Abbas said:

“Some patients may also want to ask questions while filling out the questionnaire and for this reason we have a dedicated telephone team, with lines open from 9am-6pm Monday to Friday, and a chat widget that is manned by a pharmacist from 9am-9pm seven days a week.

“As we grow, we don’t want to turn into a faceless company. Our aim is to meet the healthcare needs of the public and make it more accessible to patients where it be to provide advice counselling or reassurance.

“We also want to ensure that we are providing a service that is affordable to the public. I personally don’t see a point in having a service that is able to reach so many people if the majority cannot afford it. We work with supplies to try and ensure our prices are reasonable.”

Chemist Click is a registered UK online pharmacy and will be launching an NHS prescription service in April. Patients will be able to order their repeat prescriptions online and have them delivered for free, negating the need to go to the pharmacy and queue for their prescriptions.

Despite only having been in operation since September 2018, Chemist Click has already been featured in The Sun, Independent, Metro, Mirror, Daily Star, Cosmopolitan, Daily Mail, Yahoo, AOL, Express & Netdoctor.
