The House of Lords Preterm Birth Committee continues its inquiry by hearing from charities who focus on the impact of preterm birth on parents and families. Also giving evidence will be clinical academics specialising in secondary prevention of preterm birth.
The session can be followed live on Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster on Monday 19 February from 3.15pm.
Giving evidence at 3.15pm will be:
- Dr Catherine Aiken,
Associate Professor and Honorary Consultant in Fetal and Maternal Medicine, Cambridge University Hospitals; - Prof Asma Khalil,
Professor of Obstetric and Maternal Fetal Medicine, St. George’s Hospitals.
Members will ask questions relating to:
- treatments available to prevent or reduce the impact of preterm birth for mothers identified as being at risk;
- consistency in the use of treatments across the country;
- priority areas for interventions and further research to improve obstetric care and the prevention of preterm birth.
Giving evidence at 4.15pm will be:
- Ciara Curran,
Founder, Little Heartbeats; - Caroline Lee-Davey,
Chief Executive, Bliss; - Catriona Ogilvy,
Founder and Chair, The Smallest Things.
Members will ask questions relating to:
- the impact of preterm birth for babies, parents and families;
- support currently available to mothers and families following a preterm birth;
- priority areas for action to improve care before and after preterm birth.
The committee will be launching its call for evidence shortly.
