The 36-page document – called Sharing How We Care For You Guide – was developed after surveys of inpatients identified a need for more information in the trust’s wards and different departments.
“It is essential that patients are given every opportunity to access the information they need”

The guide for patients, relatives and visitors sets out what to expect when receiving care and treatment at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust.
Developed by clinicians and patients, it covers everything from staff uniforms and day-to-day activities on wards to instructions on how to use the free Wi-fi and other trust facilities.
Cindy Storer, the trust’s acting deputy director of nursing, midwifery and allied health professionals, said it was important patients and families knew what to expect from their time in hospital.
“As a trust, we think it is essential that patients are given every opportunity to access the information they need, engaging with their care and treatment,” she said.
“By introducing Sharing How We Care For You, and ensuring it is at the fingertips of every visitor, we are able to share how we do things at DBTH, ultimately improving patient care, safety and experience,” she added.
“As a trust we are committed to becoming the safest trust in England”

The guide was developed over six months and comes in a wipe-clean folder that complies with infection control standards and can be easily disinfected.
“Hospitals can often feel like strange, alien places, with lots of staff coming and going. Sharing How We Care For You helps patients to familiarise themselves in their ward, and answers those crucial questions they might have,” said Ms Storer.
“As a trust we are committed to becoming the safest trust in England, outstanding in all that we do and we believe this is just another step in this journey,” she added.
The folders will be available throughout the trust’s three hospitals – Bassetlaw Hospital, Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Montagu Hospital. A digital version can be accessed via the trust’s website.
