Northampton General Hospital will showcase career and training opportunities for nurses at recruitment day

Northampton General Hospital is opening its doors to qualified medical, paediatric and theatre nurses and ODPs at its Autumn open day on Saturday (6th October) at the hospital. It will be hosting live recruitment interviews from 10am until 2pm and hopes to appoint several new nurses for each department. Candidates will meet nurses and representatives from the wards and departments and be able to discuss the roles available, as well as the many career and training opportunities offered by the hospital.

This week the hospital also opened its stunning £12million new emergency assessment centre – The Nye Bevan building. The emergency assessment unit is an exciting addition to Northampton General Hospital, enabling it to explore innovative models of care for emergency admissions. The 60-bedded two-storey building will be used to care for seriously unwell patients who need to be admitted from the A&E department for further assessment and treatment.

Other benefits for nurses are the fantastic training and development opportunities at Northampton General Hospital, which are second to none. The hospital will soon become the first UK hospital to achieve Pathway to Excellence accreditation, an international programme to validate workplaces, where nurses are supported to develop and flourish. The hospital also promotes their Everyday Hero and Daisy award schemes to reward and recognise their staff. Leadership and development opportunities are also open to nurses and they can participate in courses run in partnership with The University of Northampton and access the RCN leadership programme.

Andy Belcher, Clinical Resource Planning Manager said,

“On Saturday, we are looking forward to meeting qualified nurses looking to develop their careers as medical, theatre or paediatric nurses and ODPs. The support and training we can offer them is unrivalled. Northampton General is pioneering Pathway to Excellence and the Daisy award, and both schemes enable us to offer nurses the very best development opportunities and rewards available.”

“Our open day comes in the same week that we have opened our fantastic Nye Bevan assessment centre, which offers new ways for our medical staff to work and treat patients and allows patients to be triaged to the right place at the right time. This is an exciting time to join Northampton General Hospital and we are looking forward to welcoming more nurses into the team.”

Northampton General Hospital is one of the key partners in the ‘Best of Both Worlds’ recruitment campaign launched last year by Altadicta. It is the first campaign of its kind to bring together several NHS providers to address the national shortage of doctors and nurses by highlighting the many benefits of relocating to Northamptonshire, including the varied career opportunities and better quality of life.

The campaign unites the University of Northampton, Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Northampton General Hospital, Kettering General Hospital (KGH), St Andrew’s Healthcare and Northants GP.
