Running from 10-12 July, the free online conference will include case studies, research and clinical sessions covering patient mobility and preventing harm and will provide a platform for health professionals around the world to connect and learn.

Among the speakers are Heather Zirk, a nurse at NorQuest College in Canada, who will give a presentation on making mobility a nursing priority; and Catherine Sendall, lead nurse in the frailty education team at Imperial College Healthcare Trust, London, who will talk about the value of frailty champions.
The summit has been organised by #EndPJParalysis creaters Professor Brian Dolan and Lynda Holt, who both have a nursing background in the UK, with support from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland, the NHS and the #EveryBODYmoves campaign in the US, as well as colleagues in Canada, Ireland, Holland, Australia and New Zealand.
It will run for three days straight to allow health professionals to take part no matter where they are around the world.
Professor Dolan said: “We are so excited about hosting this free online 72-hour summit via endpjparalysis.org to highlight the huge impact nurses, therapists and others can have on patient safety, experience and staff wellbeing by encouraging patients to get up, dressed and moving while in hospital.”
He added that the summit would include 80 papers on subjects including the impact of deconditioning, valuing patients’ time, leading large scale change and how getting patients up, dressed and moving reduced nursing workload while improving patient safety and experience as well as enhancing staff wellbeing.

The #EndPJParalysis campaign was launched in 2016 and seeks to reduce patient inactivity and the associated complications such as muscle and bone degeneration, falls, pressure damage, incontinence and cognitive impairment, which can in turn lead to longer hospital stays.
The initiative was backed by former chief nursing officer for England, Professor Jane Cummings, who last year ran a 70-day #EndPJparalysis challenge, which aimed to give patients back one million days of their time that would otherwise be wasted in bed in a hospital or care home.
