‘Tea’ wins Student Nursing Times Awards mug painting competition

Matthew Pimm, from the University of Worcester, was judged the winner of the ‘Paint a Mug’ competition for 2019 on Friday.

The competition was open to students shortlisted for the Student Nursing Times Awards, the ceremony for which was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane last week.

Mr Pimm, who was shortlisted for the Nursing Associate Trainee of the Year Award, designed the mug with an acronym for the word “tea”, which said: “NHS fuelled by… Transformative Effective Action”.

As a result of winning the mug competition, Mr Pimm was awarded £250 in Love2Shop vouchers which can be redeemed in over 20,000 stores, restaurants and attractions.

Mug entries were judged on relevance to the NHS, creativity of the painting and the entry picture posted on the social media site Twitter.

Those who entered were asked to paint their mug, put it in the oven for 25 minutes as per instructions, take a picture of their creation and send it in for judging via Twitter using the #SNTAmughot hashtag.

Mr Pimms used nursing figurines and hospital beds in his picture entry on Twitter and also made a video of his mug.

The idea behind the competition is to showcase how creative student nurses can be.

Entries closed on 19 April and Mr Pimms was announced as the winner on Friday on Twitter.
